The series The Human Yardstick was inspired by landscape photography from the nineteenth century, where, in the desire to show the magnificence of the landscape, one often placed a person somewhere in the image field.
Just as surveyors use a yardstick, the human figure is used to indicate a relationship between things – but to me, it's about something more than just aspect ratio. It is also about how we relate to the nature around us and whether we are part of it – or a foreign element.
Printed in 33x33 and 50x50 cm. Ed. of 5 / image.
